How We Started
It started with a trip…
When one of our co-founders traveled with her family to volunteer at an all-girls high school and medical clinic in Maasai Mara, Kenya, she became fast friends with a group of girls and women who shared experiences that – despite occurring a world apart– strongly mirrored her own. These universal stories included struggling to find their way in society, learning to assert their identities and independence, and facing parental and marital challenges. The connections from this visit led to the formation of IndiMark to answer the central question: how can our shared experiences help us empower one another?
After returning home, members of the Maasai community paid a return visit. Soon, friends from Madison, Wisconsin, were caught up in the desire to do something to “make a mark.” Thus, was born IndiMark.
